It’s been a while since my last post, but I’m excited about these new prints that I’m developing for a show in October at the Searcy Art Gallery. The series of prints and multimedia drawings are based on our recent trip to South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand–with an emphasis on the South East Asian portion. The show will pair my work, an American’s impression of SE Asia with pieces from the collection of Tom Killough. Tom lived and traveled in Asia for most of his adult life. He collected art objects while there. So it will be an interesting positioning of Asian cultural expression and an American’s look into the culture.

Queenstown Pines (black and white)

I printed a black and white version of this block because I will be doing a reduction print on the color version and I wanted to preserve the original cut state.

Queenstown Pines (unfinished)

Still working out color relationships on this one. The mountains surrounding Queenstown, New Zealand (South Island), are covered with pines. They are beautiful, but an invasive species. The South Island originally only had short scrubby trees called matagouri. These pines are located on the Queenstown Hill Trail, which is much bigger than a hill.

Malaysian Mosaic (unfinished)

We visited the Malaysian War Memorial in Kuala Lumpur, and I was impressed by the Islamic mosaics on the floors of the pavilions. Kind of reminds me of Chutes and Ladders on drugs.
